Corfu Palace Hotel Review | "A real gem"

Just returned from the Corfu Palace hotel ....beautiful location for poping into Corfu town, lovely front entrance, clean room, breakfast ok... But oh dear a lot of buts!!! Sold by Thompson as a 5 star alacart BUT never in a month of Greek Sundays it may have been one time many years ago but ( first BUT ) not now. My partner had been going for 27 years BUT not again. Room service non existant had to wait for over one Hour Twenty for room service, and it did not get better. not once were the correct item ordered delivered.

My wife, 11 year old daughter and I stayed half board for 11 nights at Corfu palace hotel at the end of August. The whole experience of the hotel (location, food, cleanliness, pool area, other guests) made it a fabulous holiday. I will deal with the negative points first as there are not many:- The floors in the rooms are hard floors which means that you will hear guests in the room above if they are dressed for dinner or arriving back late unless they make an extra special effort to remove their shoes and tread lightly. This is a problem we have encountered before and is not restricted to Corfu palace hotel. Use carpets instead? Well they just get stained and in view of comments I have seen relating to other hotels, I guess this is a difficult choice to make

The bar prices are very high. Wine with dinner was very expensive as was the price of soft drinks and bottled water. As a result, the hotel was very quiet in the evening as people probably went into town to drink. Other reviews mention the need for a refurbishment/update. It is an older property and yes the furniture in the rooms is a little old fashioned but not run down by any means. If you look closely at any hotel you will find fault so, in view of its age, it is not surprising that there is a bit of wear and tear. The fittings must have been high quality to have stood the test of time so well. The good points were as follows:-

The rooms were spotless (I even caught our maid vacuuming the balcony when I returned to the room whilst it was being serviced!) The bed linen was changed daily and in good condition. The towels also changed daily and the same comment applies. Blue towels were issued for use by the pool and one or two of these were a bit faded but who cares – I have seen pool towels like this in many other places. As regards the old style TV I have seen referred to elsewhere, yes our TV was relatively old fashioned but it had remote control, worked well and had a good selection of channels. It was only ever on for our daughter to watch whilst we got changed after a day by the pool or out sightseeing and she was happy enough. I would rather have an older TV that keeps my daughter happy than the latest LCD variety with nothing worth watching

The food was superb. The hotel is not huge so they were able to cater for those guests on HB using waiter service. This was a welcome change from other larger hotels we have stayed at where the self service set up can create a risk of luke warm food served in Bain Maries. Evening meals are served outside on the terrace above the pool, a lovely setting and you keep the same table every night. The selection was good, four choices for each of the four courses on offer and the quality was very good. Sadly we are not big eaters so we rarely managed more than two courses. On these occasions we were offered fresh fruit to take to the room for the morning or next afternoon - a nice touch. Breakfast was second to none in my opinion. Freshly squeezed orange juice (you load the machine with oranges yourself), a good range of tea and coffee supplemented by a good selection of hot and cold food served up in a very nice dining room overlooking the bay– a perfect start to the day

The pool area was well kept, quiet and getting a sunbed after 9am was no problem. The salt water pool was much warmer than I expected. There is a free Wi Fi service that worked well. I did not use the lap top rental service.
The staff were excellent. Professional, courteous and friendly. Thomas, one of the waiters, stands out as particularly helpful and friendly. Also a blond lady who ‘manned’ Reception most mornings (whose name I did not get) was very helpful and professional. In summary – if you want a holiday with lots of entertainment provided by the hotel - music, animation teams, kids clubs etc or if you are noisy, do not come here, you will not like it. If you want a holiday where you can make your own entertainment, stroll into Corfu town (10 minutes walk) whenever it pleases you, enjoy good food served in an environment where everyone makes the effort to dress for dinner (as far as is appropriate on holiday), and meet people with no more interest than being polite then you should consider this hotel. We rarely revisit places we have stayed at before. If we return to Corfu, we will probably stay at Corfu palace hotel
