Kassiopi Holiday Reviews

.

The small fishing village of Kassiopi is on the north eastern tip of Corfu, about 22 miles from Corfu Town. Kassiopi is reached by a winding road that leads around the foot of Mount Pantorkrator with views over to Albania, Kassiopi is an attractive, colourful resort.
The narrow main street is lined with a wonderful variety of tavernas & bars, shops selling locally produced lace and crocheted items, and small mini markets. The brand new white walled, red roofed villas have sprung up all over Kassiopi and are dominated by the ruins of an ancient old castle. When the Romans took over Corfu in 227BC, it was a natural stopping place on sea routes, and many famous people are believed to have visited the village including the Emperor Nero. There are four beaches within Kassiopi which are all small and pebbly. The numerous bars and the Passion nightclub give the resort a considerable appeal to young holidaymakers. There is a local bus to Corfu town throughout the week and once on a Sunday. The journey takes about one and an half hour.

A couple of years ago I took my mother, wife and daughter on a package holiday to the Greek island of Corfu. A thoroughly enjoyable two week holiday. Arrival: Moving through Corfu airport was relatively quick and we were soon aboard our coach and bound for the sea side resort of Kassiopi located in the north east of Corfu island. The 20 miles or so from the Airport to Kassiopi is via small winding coastal roads. Inevitable problems passing oncoming traffic rmade it an epic hour long jouney. On our journey from the Airport the clouds opened and the rain fell. Boy did it fall. The deluge lasted a mere two or three minutes and virtually flooded the road. However, once the rain stopped so did the flood. This weather in Corfu is not untypical in early June. Most holiday accommodation in Kassiopi is within a ten minute walk of the town centre and small fishing port. The town is packed with restaurants, bars, pubs and shops, including supermarkets for self caterers. It has ATMs, an internet cafe, postal and telephone sevices. German nationals are not allowed to stay in Kassioppi (Best not to ask why as the locals are still VERY upset about what the Germans did there during the second world war). There is a bay and peebly beach to the north of the town where sun loungers cost about 2-3 euros a day to hire. There are paddleboats etc for hire. The sea water is clean and not cold. You can generally use any swimming pool in any hotel so long as you buy a coffee, ice cream orwhatever twhuilstyou are there.
Restaurants, Bars, Pubs & Entertainment: A good variety of inexpensive local and italian etc cuisine. Pubs (with uk beers) hold all kinds of theme evenings for all the family. Plenty of greek nights etc. There are three aquaparks all very good value, Corfu town with its markets, two citadels and a Palace. Plenty of beaches and the hilly areas in the centre of the island worth visiting. would avoid the Tour Operator excursions (especially the one to Albania) as they are expensive compared to the local ones. Compare prices before signing up to anything. If you shop around you can get some great deals. I found a local family hire company to be the best. It was half the price of Hertz etc and had a no nonsense all inclusive insurance, including chassis cover.
BEWARE: If you hire a car without chassis cover you could find yourself in financial trouble. The land beside the winding roads often falls away sharply. Coming off the tarmaced road can damage the chassis. Sun: Ohh Yes. When its hot - its very hot. Make sure you always have plenty of bottled water where ever you go. Corfu locals are very nice people, but may not speak english. They dont mind if you dont. Universal sign language and a smile will go a long way. Kassiopi is all you need for a family holiday .

Have just returned from yet another great holiday in Kassiopi, the place with something for everyone. When you go you absolutely must - Eat at the Strofilia Restaurant (next to bakery) where Gaynor and Natalia will serve you fantastic food at excellent prices. Drink at the Eclipse Bar (recently refurbished) where you can relax with a drink - or join in the partying. Whatever, you'll be served by the gorgeous Spiros or Conrad! Visit the Bella Vista pool bar where friendly Rob and Nicqui will look after you, starting with breakfast and serving snacks and drinks throughout the day while you relax on the free sunbeds around the super-clean pool. I've been holidaying in Kassiopi for five years and have yet to meet anyone who doesn't want to go back again. The friendliness and hospitality of the people there is just amazing and makes for a brilliant holiday every time.
