Corfu's highest mountain is Pantokrator (914 metres -straight up from the sea). This is the highest peak of a
large range of mountains which takes up more or less all of north-east Corfu. There is a monastery on the summit, but also a lot of very ugly communications aerials. The air literally buzzes. The second highest mountain is the (disregarded) second peak of this range, which I've just discovered by looking at an old map is called
Mikarakodes and is 852 metres high. In third place is Tsouka (625m), which is the highest point of the long ridge which runs from the Pantokrator range towards the west coast. This range hits a second high point just before it descends into the sea at Mount Arakli (505m), which is just at the back of Paleokastritsa. The second big
range of Corfu mountains is in the centre of the island, south-west of Corfu town. Here the highest peak is the mount of Agii Deka, meaning “Ten Saints”, at 576 metres. A deserted monastery stands near the summit.
