Walk along or through the National Garden to get to the Temple of Olympian Zeus. The construction of this temple started as early as 515 BC, but progress was halted multiple times. It was finally completed by Emperor Hadrian and was inaugurated in 131 BC. The Temple of Olympian Zeus was one of the largest in the ancient world.
It started to fall apart in the 5th century AD. Only 16 of the original 104 columns survive, one of which fell in a storm in 1852 and continues to lay in pieces on the ground. |
