This lovely village was the old capital of Alonissos before the major earthquake occured in 1965 and destroyed the entire settlement. At that time all the inhabitants deserted the village and moved near the coast where they built Patitiri, the new capital of Alonissos Island.
Chora is located 4 kilometres west of the port and capital, built amphitheatrically on the hill slopes around the natural bay. A lot of the houses in Palio Horio have been damaged. Greeks, Germans and English managed to restore some of them and today we can see them as cafes, local shops or even guest houses.
